Friday, 7 November, Rarotonga, Cook Islands

This was our last day in the Cook Islands, so we took it easy and just enjoyed the beach and the water. After breakfast I checked on the time we'd be picked up for our flight to Cairns, Australia, and learned it was 200 AM. We would have to sleep quickly. Gail of course worked on repacking and rearranging for the next leg of our trip, and I took a walk up to Wigmore Falls, a couple of kilometers past the store. The trip took me past the Hilton Hotel property (originally a Sheraton) which is nothing but a dozen concrete buildings that have never been completed, surrounded by acres of chest high weeds. As the weather had been dry the last few days, there wasn't much water on the falls, but it was a nice walk up and down a gravel road anyway.

We spent the rest of the day reading on our deck and went for a last snorkel and splash in the late afternoon. There was a free happy hour at 5, but we were both tired and skipped it. We went to dinner at 630, had one more excellent meal, this one featuring shrimp salad in a papaya. We realized that we'd not explored other restaurants, but since the food at the Palm Grove was so good and so reasonably priced, we just didn't bother.  Naturally, to bed early.
