Friday, 14 November, Port Douglas, QLD, AU to Townsville, QLD, AU

This was our first day of driving down the Cook Highway towards Sydney. First thing in the morning we went into Port Douglas to pick up our CD of pictures from the Barrier Reef tour from the Wavelength office. We stopped in Cairns for breakfast at a McCafe, a McDonalds that basically includes a "non-Starbucks", with a full range of coffees and sweets, as well as the usual McDonalds breakfast items. Then the early part of the day was spent driving along the coast, with frequent views of the Coral Sea. Later kilometers brought us inland through hills and a great many sugar cane fields.

As always, the roundabouts in the various towns along the way were an adventure. We stopped for lunch at the Frosty Mango, not too far north of Townsville, Naturally we had mango ice cream as well as more usual lunch food. We arrived at our motel by 300pm and just relaxed the rest of the day.
