Saturday, 15 November, Townsville, QLD, AU to Gladstone, QLD, AU

Getting out of Townsville was an adventure, and took us about a half hour to get through the maze to the highway. But we made it. The trip on the highway was pleasant and attractive, with more sugar cane fields, green mountains, and only a couple views of the sea on the way. We had ten hours on the road, so it was our longest day on the trip. The roads are all excellent, two lanes, and almost no traffic in Queensland north of Brisbane. We had a quick lunch of pies (meat, or course) and kept on going. Getting into Gladstone was also an adventure, as the town is hills with roads that don't go anywhere, and on Saturday evening no one who knows how to get to our motel, which is sort of out of the way on a dead end at the top of a hill. But of course we don't know that. Finally we got directions, and after 30 or more minutes of traveling all over town, we made it. Fortunately the motel had a very nice restaurant with fairly reasonable prices, so we avoided going back out into the maze. Gail had lamb chops and I had a steak, so we were happy and well fed.
