Monday, 17 November, Brisbane, QLD, AU to Nambucca Heads, NSW, AU Upon awakening we turned on the TV and got the paper to see how bad the devastation was in the area. Once again, we were thankful to have suffered no damage or injuries, other than stress. After the adventures of the last three days on the road, and the stress that overwhelms Gail, we decided to cancel the plan to drive from Sydney to Melbourne and back after the cruise ends. So, we ordered room service breakfast and spent most of the morning making flight reservations between Sydney and Melbourne, starting to change hotel reservations, and so forth. In the long run the change actually saved us some money. We missed the Great Ocean Road (but we've seen the Oregon Coast), and Canberra (but we've been to other capitals) and several days of rural driving. Actually, it is a relief for both of us. We had no problems leaving Brisbane, despite heavy traffic the first couple hours as well as continuing moderate rain. It rained lightly all day, but we got to Nambucca Heads with no problems at all. Our lodging there was older and a bit funky, but was inexpensive and fine. Plus, they had laundry facilities that were inexpensive and the wireless internet was only one dollar a day, the least expensive I've ever even heard of. We asked where to eat for something good but not fancy, and they recommended we go next door to the RSL, the Returned Service League, sort of like our American Legion. All we had to do was sign in for no fee, and then we could have access to the bar, food, and slot machines. We had a light dinner and dessert and Gail played the slots (pokies) and even won ten dollars. Compared to the last couple, a smooth and excellent day. |
