Wednesday, 19 November, Parramatta, NSW, AU to Auckland, NZ

We woke early so that we could leave the hotel at 600 to drive to the airport. There was a fair amount of traffic, but we made it fine.  We did go around the airport a couple of times through construction because the car rental return was so poorly marked, but it all worked out fine. While I was checking the car in Gail waited with the luggage and she and her bags were inspected by a beagle with a handler.  I'm sure the dog was able to find all sorts of contraband, but of course she didn't have any. The flight was theoretically Qantas, but actually was a LAN Chile plane that was code shared with Qantas. The crew was Chilean, and many passengers were returning to Santiago, as the plane continued there after the stop to let some of us off in Auckland. Enough of the cabin crew spoke English that there was no real problem communicating.

We took a shuttle from the airport to the Westin Hotel near the harbor, checked in and later had a fantastic dinner in the restaurant in the hotel.  We were just too tired to go out elsewhere.
