Sunday, 30 November, on the Tasman Sea Another lazy but rocking and rolling day at sea. I set the alarm for 700 so I could get up and go to Mass at 800, but at 600 I turned it off and went back to sleep until 830, when we got up and went up for breakfast. After a little TV watching (there isn’t much selection), we went down to one of the lounges and read our books for a couple hours. By then it was time to eat again, so we did. We kept on reading after that and then went to take care of the Australian immigration paperwork, which had taken us about 4 minutes to fill out, and two minutes for the officer to look at it and stamp our passports. Why are we basically sitting around and reading and relaxing? The Tasman Sea, being part of the “Roaring Forties”, is usually rough, and yesterday’s weather is continuing. We are rocking and rolling in force 10 winds (50mph) and 12 to 18 foot seas. This is exactly why they have handholds all over the ship in passageways and function rooms. The same weather should continue tomorrow, as well. Overnight, the winds and waves got worse. At one point I thought we were going to fall out of bed. The seas had reached 25 to 27 feet, and the wind was over hurricane strength, about 90mph. Back to itinerary (trip home page)
