Thursday, 11 December, Melbourne, AU We had a relaxing morning, but this was a day to tour Melbourne. We walked several blocks to the Grayline office about noon to catch our tour bus. First we were taken to a boat dock for an hour tour on the Yarra River. The boat took us down the river past all sorts of new buildings and almost into the harbor, before returning. Many of the bridges are extremely low, so we had to duck our heads if we were standing on deck. It was a beautiful, sunny day for once, and we really enjoyed the beauty of it all. When we were picked up by the bus, we started with a fairly complete tour of the CBD before heading up to the Dandenong Mountains, about a half hour out of town. We passed through many little towns in the hills, and all sorts of holiday homes, antique shops and bed and breakfast places. We stopped for tea in a National Park, where we fed a variety of colorful birds in the wild, including cockatoos and parrots, while having tea and biscuits. Our next stop was at a lookout point where we could see the entire valley, all the way back to the Melbourne CBD in the haze. We got back about 530, had some stir fry for dinner, and found a place where we could get gelato for dessert before a pleasant stroll back to our room. |
