Sunday, 14 December, Melbourne, VIC, AU to Sydney, NSW, AU We got up, and of course it was raining. The news said that we'd been having the most rain in years during the last few days. However, all are thankful for it, as they've had a drought in most of Australia for eight to ten years. We took a cab to the airport and checked in quickly and easily. Security on domestic flights is pretty minimal, and even non-passengers can go to the gates if they go through security. No shoes off, no showing a quart bag of liquids and gels, just put metal in a little box and remove laptop from bag. The flight was fine, and we arrived to a sunny day, the first in a while. We got our bags and took the five dollar shuttle to the Mercure Airport Hotel. It is a very nice hotel, especially for the low price we got by pre-paying some time ago. It has an outdoor pool, but we decided not to use it, as it was fairly cool and quite breezy. We had a very nice late lunch in the Bistro Bar, and on Sunday were about the only people around the place, as this is obviously a hotel for business people traveling. In addition, every place we've been they reported that travelers have been many fewer than usual, especially for summer and Christmas holidays. The down side of an airport hotel is that they're normally fairly isolated. I did find a 7-11 about a half mile away so I got some sandwiches and juice and Chocky Milk (yes, that's actually what the bottle says) for a light supper in our room. With a good internet connection I was able to start catching up on text and pictures for these pages. Back to itinerary (trip home page)
