Monday, 22 December, At Sea

This was our first day at sea on this cruise, and it was great to sleep late instead of getting up nice and early for a day tour. After breakfast we went to the bridge lecture by Gerald Bare, a guy from Pacific Palisades who is a Grand Life Master with over 14,000 master points. He's not a great teacher to a group, unfortunately, but we still learned a few things. There were a lot of people there, so we expected there would be a good turnout for bridge in the afternoon.  Later in the morning I went up to the track and walked/ran three miles. It was mostly walking due to the motion of the ship, which makes you go from side to side and up and down. We later played duplicate bridge from 130 to 400. We were 7th of 8, but we had fun and learned a lot. Most important, almost all of the players were nice and friendly, even those who have tons of master points and were much better than us. Late in the afternoon I was able to find two washers and got some laundry done. Exciting times, huh? Before dinner at 800 we went to the "Captain's Welcome Party" and had a couple glasses of fruit punch. After the party I found a nice necklace for Gail in one of the shops at an amazingly reasonable price, so we got it. It looks great. A nice and easy day at sea.
