Wednesday, 24 December, At Sea It finally started to feel a bit like Christmas, at least in part due to all the decorations around the ship. After breakfast and the bridge lecture, where we were the only attendees, we read and napped the rest of the morning. The lunch buffet had a ton of extra and fancy desserts, so we naturally had to try some of them. During lunch we passed Mangareva and some of the outlying islands in the Gambier Group, the most remote part of French Polynesia, and the closest populated island to Pitcairn Island. Bridge was fun despite coming in last, which reminded us that we should play E/W instead of N/S, since all of the "pros" in the group want to play N/S. After bridge I purchased four hours of internet time for $100 and to use it sparingly throughout the cruise to at least check email. While online we found out that the Broncos had lost to TCU by one point in the Holiday Bowl the night before. Too bad. We then played in a trivia game, this one focused on the South Pacific. We didn't win, and due to some very rude and hostile participants we decided we wouldn't play again. After the trivia I went back up to the track and did four miles. Before dinner there was a carol sing which made it seem a bit more like Christmas, despite being in the middle of the ocean in warm weather. Dinner was fun, since we all rearranged the seating so people sat by others and got to know each other better. When we went back to our cabin the steward had left a cute little stocking on our bed. A very nice Christmas eve. Back to itinerary (trip home page)
