Friday, 26 December, At Sea

This is another sea day, starting on the two day trip to Easter Island. Once again we slept late, had breakfast, and went to the 930 bridge lecture. We were the only ones, which was fine. As noted before, Gerald isn't the best teacher to a group, but is great one on one (or one on two in this case), so we learned a lot. He has often had handouts, so we're keeping them for future study, because we want to play duplicate bridge when we've been home for a while. Before lunch I went up to the track and did three miles. I'd planned on doing more, but it was just getting to rough to be safe. I sure didn't want to fall and sprain an ankle or anything else. After lunch we played bridge again, and again were next to last, but we're learning a lot from our opponents, most of whom are much more experienced.

After bridge we headed for the pool, and we laughed when everyone else left the pool because it started to rain. Somehow we just don't get the idea you should leave the pool because it is raining. No lightning, no storm, just a little rain, no big deal. Not like we could get any wetter, after all. Eventually it did get pretty stormy, so we went back to our cabin, showered, and watched the storm, which had lightning and thunder by that time. Obviously there are thunderstorms in the middle of the ocean, but it was our first experience in one. Marty from Ft. Lauderdale has become sort of the "supper arranger" and again we shuffled around the table for eight, and played a "truth or dare" type of game, which was lots of fun.
