Thursday, 1 January, At Sea When we got up to welcome the new year it was clear that Gail needed more treatment than she'd been able to give herself. She'd slept through the ship blowing its big horn at midnight, which I wouldn't have thought anyone could sleep through. I insisted that she needed to see the doctor, so we went down at 900 when they opened. She accused me of only wanting to go down so I could meet the sexy doctor, but my real concern was with Gail, not the South African woman doctor. We had to wait quite a while, as there were several there ahead of us, but we finally got in for Gail to be examined. The doctor gave her a different antibiotic to take on top of the one she was already taking, plus some "Chesty Cough" syrup (that's the actual name on the bottle). It is much like the Robitussin we're used to. She also was given an inhaler and a nebulizer to use for four days to try to get more drugs into her lungs. Gail naturally whined about the total of $245 for the exam and all the drugs and equipment, but I reminded her what is important, health. Not money. Gail only went out of the cabin for meals and the doctor visit, as we skipped bridge again, since there was no way she was mentally or physically up to it. We did watch the Orange Bowl after supper, as it was the first real sports that had been available on our TV since we left Tahiti. Our team lost, but so it goes. Back to itinerary (trip home page)
