Sunday, 4 January, Callao/Lima, Peru Although the ship doesn't leave Callao until 100pm, we'd not planned any tours off of the ship for the day. Gail was feeling worse again, so I took her back to the doctor for a follow up. Actually, the doctor had suggested checking back after a few days, but had expected things to be better. Although we got there right after opening, there were several people ahead of us, so it was a long wait. She agreed that Gail was not improved, and was quite puzzled as Gail was only the second person in eight years on ships who hadn't responded to the treatment she gave. She gave Gail new drugs for the nebulizer, another inhaler, and orders to stay in bed and rest. I mentioned that we were booked on the flight to Quito two days later, and the doctor agreed with me that there was no way Gail could go to a polluted city at a 9300 foot altitude. The doctor called the tour office and told them that they should refund the $600 for Gail's tour, but they said that trip was absolutely not cancellable for any reason. I talked later to the tour office and they were going to try to get us a refund since she couldn't go. Gail was ordered to come back again in a couple of days for another follow up. After the doctor visit, Gail went back to the cabin and ordered lunch for us from room service. I went back on shore to visit the shops that were set up on the pier. I bought her a little stuffed alpaca animal, made out of baby alpaca wool. We later went up for supper at the buffet. We saw various of our tablemates and bridge opponents around the ship and kept them up on why we weren't showing up in the dining room or card room and they all wished Gail well. Gail did indeed follow directions and stay in bed, doing her drugs and inhalers. Back to itinerary (trip home page)
