Thursday, 29 January, Ka'anapali, Maui We both started feeling a bit better, though I'm well ahead of Gail in that area, despite starting drugs only a day sooner. She's still coughing and feeling pretty bad. We spent the morning on the lanai watching for whales and reading our books. Since the weather is now nice, there are lots of people on the beach and in the water. In the middle of the afternoon we went to Cannery Mall and had some late lunch in the food court, pork and noodles for Gail and a gyro for me. The entire mall was totally dead, and the clerks in a couple of shops confirmed that they're really hurting due to lack of tourists. The papers indicate that tourism is down 20 percent, but it sure seems like it is down more than that. After taking Gail back to rest, I went shopping to pick up a few TV dinners and some ice cream, so we'll be set for another day. We ended the day watching The Apartment, one of our favorite classic films. Back to itinerary (trip home page)
