Thursday, 5 February, Ka'anapali, Maui

The weather was much better today, a normal West Maui winter day with mixed sun and clouds, moderate breezes, and occasional showers. There are still high surf warnings, but that doesn't bother us, since Gail isn't yet up to snorkeling. After a little breakfast and reading, we headed out to Lahaina to go to the Wharf Cindma to see Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. The 100pm showing had a total of six people in the theater. We both loved the movie. Rather than hike over half of downtown to get to one of the better restaurants we went back to the car and drove to Whaler's Village to eat at the Hula Grill. It was mid afternoon, so we sat under the umbrellas at one of the tables on the sand. We had wonderful fish tacos and ribs and pizza, followed by Coconut Creme Brulee in a pineapple for me and Baked Hawai'i for Gail. The desserts were indeed amazing, and the rest was excellent as well. When we got back we saw lots of whales and watched Fanny, which neither of us had ever seen. I enjoyed a most excellent birthday.
